Social Studies and Math

Today the Grade 3's had a Social Studies quiz on everything we have learned so far in our, "Pioneers in Upper Canada" unit. I just marked them, and I must say they were VERY well done!!! Can you share with your parents the 5 places Pioneers travelled from to get to Upper Canada? Which ocean did the pioneers coming from Europe have to cross?

In math, we continued learning about how arrays help us understand multiplication. For example,

The array below shows a multiplication question, can you guess what it is?

If you guessed 4 x 6, or 6 x 4 you got it! We also listened to a catchy (kind of corny) song that helped us to remember that ANYTHING times zero, equals zero and ANYTHING times one, equals the other number! For example,

           0 x 4 = 0                      5 x 1 = 5                     87 x 0 = ?
           6 x 0 = 0                     1 x 10 = 10                    1 x 56 = ?
       1342 x 0 = 0               20 001 x 1 = 20 001             123 x 1 = ?
     0 x 12 234 = 0                  1 x 456 = 1                       0 x 0 =?

Write down the answers to the highlighted questions in your planner for a prize tomorrow!

See you soon,
